The Australian War Memorial comprises a wide range of facilities for the visitor looking for information on Australian miltiary history. There are ten galleries including the First World War. There are special places of Remembrance, talks and speeches, exhibtiions and events.
In addition to an education programme there is extensive research material available at the museum research facility. Material is also available to view online including the Australian First World War Official Histories.

Research Centre Reading Room open: Monday to Friday 10.00 to 16.50; Saturday 13.00 to 16.50

The National Archives of Australia, a department of the Australian government, holds the Service Records dating from 1901. The Service Records of Australian men and women who served with the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War can be viewed online.
There are National Archive has offices in Canberra, each state capital and the city of Darwin. Reading Rooms are open for visitors and Fact Sheets are provided online for visitors to find out where to go and what they can search for.

Henry George Hartnett enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in September 1915. He saw action at the Battle of Fromelles and the Battle of the Somme 1916, where he was badly wounded.
